Garden Workshop With Niamh Flannelly,
Are you interested in growing your own vegetables and would like to know where to start?
Niamh Flannelly, a full time kitchen gardener will be giving an interactive ‘grow your own’ workshop here
at Fiorbhia Farm. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Fiorbhias’ woodland farm as you learn how to:
Make a bed that suits your space to start growing
What to grow? – my top five crops to grow as a beginner
Sowing seeds
Transplanting and crop care
The workshop will demonstrate how to start growing your own food in your backyard, while giving you
cost saving tips to get started. I want to inspire and encourage everyone who wish to have their own
organic vegetables and herbs right at their doorstep.
A little about Niamh:
I am a passionate horticulturist currently working as an assistant kitchen gardener at Ashford Castle, Co.
Mayo. There is nothing else I could see myself doing on a daily basis. Every evening I come home to
enjoy my own kitchen garden where I grow a range of fruits, vegetables and herbs in ‘no dig’ beds, raised
beds and a beautiful greenhouse.
I love a good challenge and learning new skills, so I’ll always have some project on the go. I am going
into my third season with my honeybees and my latest project is looking into raising some pigs for meat
(Brendan at Fiorbhia farm being a big inspiration!). Producing my own food, working outdoors and
staying active brings me a lot of happiness. With my experience I want to encourage and show people
how rewarding and enjoyable growing your food can be.
On the day:
Please wear weather appropriate clothes as workshop will be outside i.e wellies and waterproofs.
Brendan will be cooking us up some wagyu beef burgers after the workshop which are included in
the price.
Please be there for 9:45am so we can get a good start to the day. Lunch will be served at 1pm
after the workshop.
All materials for the workshop will be supplied on the day.
